Review definition of One Standard of Conduct:

“Every Team Member is expected to act in the best interests of his/her fellow Team members, our company, our customers and our shareholders”.

Ask trainee how this Standard applies to his/her job.

Tell trainee you’re going to review some bad decision scenarios. As you do, have them consider how fellow employees, the company and customers may be impacted? What’s the impact to your loved ones?

  1. You don’t look down the road as Smith System teaches (keep a proper lookout) and hit a low bridge, causing significant damage to the trailer and its cargo.
  2. You choose to follow too close and rear-end a car with a family of 4 and all are seriously hurt.
  3. You choose to drive while fatigued and as a result, fall asleep and roll your truck. You barely survive because of your seat belt but are seriously injured. Equipment and cargo is totaled.
  4. You drop a trailer that hasn’t been swept out and has a flat tire.

When you’re faced with all the decisions you have to make in a day, remember to make the decision that is in the best interest of your fellow drivers/employees, company, customers, shareholders (and loved ones).

The emphasis of this Standard of Conduct lies in teamwork and always doing the right thing.

Ever been a member of a sports or other kind of team?

What was it like when the team worked together?

State that if a trainer/trainee team works together, learning takes place and the trainee is prepared to be a successful driver.

When a trainee and Driver Manager work together as a team, good things will also happen.
